Energy Conversion

Our energy conversion research focuses on the areas of Power Electronics and Electric Machines within integrated systems.

Power Electronics

Power electronics represents one of the largest costs for manufacturers. Future research challenges are aimed at improving integration of these devices into whole systems, eliminating inefficiencies, and, reducing their size and cost. We have internationally recognised expertise in research into wide band-gap devices and their application to automotive, energy storage, power distribution and renewable generation applications. Our research teams work collaboratively to achieve system level solutions which incorporate electric machines and thermal modelling.

Electric Machines

Our research in electric machines focuses on improvements to cost and efficiency of components and volume manufacturing processes. We have expertise which covers modelling and design of machines, materials and systems research, through to development of production line optimisation.
