Close partnerships with industry

The International Automotive Research Centre (IARC) was established by Professor Lord Bhattacharyya with the vision of creating a dedicated facility that would be an integral part of WMG'S philosophy of working closely with industry. Over the years, the work evolved along with technological and societal changes, but still remains firmly rooted in WMG's original collaborative vision. Today WMG's close partnership with industry is clearly in evidence within IARC's workshops and offices with academics, researchers and engineers working together on the next generation of innovative solutions.

Responding to the growing electric and hybrid vehicle market

The building was our first purpose built facility and is now home to the Energy Innovation Centre (EIC), which develops cheaper, higher energy density, safer batteries for the growing electric and hybrid vehicles market. Our Energy Innovation Centre in a national facility for battery research across the R&D process from materials and electrochemistry through to application integration and recycling. Our facilities support test, development and scale up of new battery chemistries from concept through to full proven traction batteries, produced in sufficient quantities for details industrial evaluation in target applications.
