Rescuing a ‘Sick’ Labour Market: The Local Economic Impacts of Covid-19

THE 2020 FESTIVAL OF SOCIAL SCIENCE DIGITAL-FIRST EVENT 7-15 NOV 2020

What is having the bigger effect on economic activity - the lockdown itself or fear of the Covid-19 virus?

9th November 2020, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Professor Mirko Draca

How fast will economic activity rebound and have some types of work suffered a permanent reduction? To what extent will remote working practices continue? In this webinar, join Professor Mirko Draca (CAGELink opens in a new window Director, Department of Economics, University of Warwick) as he reports on new research using 'real-time' data that looks at the economic impacts of the Covid-19 crisis in the UK. Using daily online job vacancy data to measure the state of the labour market as well as structural changes in the nature of jobs, our analysis of real-time data allows us to address these questions with a specific focus on conditions around Coventry and the West Midlands.
