The Legal Cheek Winter 2022 Virtual Vacation Scheme

Runs from Monday, December 05 to Friday, December 09.

It features a series of short talks, workshops and Q&As with lawyers from leading firms, corresponding written exercises set by ULaw, as well as an Employability Expo and various socials. The Scheme is open to all students. Its aim is to help boost employability and enable students to gain insights into life as a lawyer across a range of practice areas. The Scheme is not part of the participating firms’ recruitment processes. This is an ideal opportunity for students who haven’t secured a law firm vacation scheme to gain some experience and network with law firms during December.

Taking place virtuallyLink opens in a new window at the end of the year, the packed programme offers delegates the chance to meet lawyers and recruiters from some of the most dynamic and interesting firms in the UK. Interactive firm-led workshops provide insight into real work, while the panel discussions with partners and trainees help delegates understand how law firms operate as businesses, and what exactly is expected in the early stages of their career.

CANCELLED: The Brain Tumour Charity: Law School Coffee Morning

Apologies but this event has had to be cancelled. A new time and date will be shared in due course.

The Law School will be hosting a Coffee Morning raising funds for “The Brain Tumour Charity”. This is in memory of a previous colleague of the Law School, Nicola Docker, who sadly passed away in August of this year. Hot drinks and cakes will be available. There will be a collection tin, so no fixed amount, just give what you can and it will all be very much appreciated.

Careers in Economics Series 2022-23

Over the past few years we have found that students from Warwick’s Economics Department have highly valued the opportunity to meet with employers and former students of the Department to explore the range of economics related careers.

For the 2022-23 academic year, we will be hosting a series of events covering a range of topics. We hope that you take this opportunity to learn about working in various sectors, the skills that employers value in economics graduates and find out more about how to apply for the positions that they offer in their companies.

If you are interested in finding out more we would like to invite you to join us for a in-person event on Wednesday 7 December 1-2pm (UK Time). You will have the opportunity to find out more from Alumni who work in various sectors.

Following this there will be time for you to carry on the conversation with our panel members while enjoying a hot drink and festive mince pies.

GLOBE Lecture: Lawyers as Constructive Ideologists

With Professor Sol Picciotto, Emeritus Professor at Lancaster University and a Visting Professor at the GLOBE Centre Warwick Law School. He is a Senior Adviser of the Tax Justice Network, coordinator of the BEPS Monitoring Group, and a member of the UN Tax Committee’s subcommittee on dispute resolution. His research focuses on the taxation of transnational corporations with special reference to developing countries.

The lecture will be followed by a drinks reception.
