Campus article, Phillips-Griffiths 1969

This 1969 interview in Warwick student paper Campus captures Professor Phillips Griffiths during his tenure as founding Head of Warwick’s Philosophy Department. The piece reflects the early intellectual leadership that helped shape the department’s identity.

Campus was replaced by The Boar, now an award-winning student newspaper, in 1973. The Boar owes its quirky name to a brainstorming session in the Penny Farthing Bar, where founders rejected local heraldic symbols in favour of a pun-laden title. As founding editor Godfrey Rust recalled, “The pun was dreadful, but it was my round and there seemed to be no-one to stop us.”
