While feedback from supervisors and members of staff is important, it can be incredibly helpful to discuss one’s work with peers in a lower-stakes and constructive environment, and it can be particularly enlightening to do so with those who take a different approach or have a different focus. For this reason, we have started a dissertation group, in which Warwick graduate students can discuss drafts of chapters/papers with their peers. The format is pre-read: graduate students circulate their drafts via a mailing list to other students within the group, who read the drafts, write comments, and discuss those comments at a time and place convenient for the students involved.
