Jennifer Robinson's visit to the PPL programme
On 13 November, Jennifer Robinson, a human rights barrister from the Doughty Street Chambers in London, visited the PPL programme. Jennifer is a high-profile lawyer who has worked on many notable cases, with clients including Wikileaks, the West Papuan independence movement, and the BBC World Service. She recently became one of the youngest women ever to address the International Court of Justice. Jen spoke to the PPL students about her journey to becoming a lawyer, what it is like to work as a barrister, and how she views her role within the legal system. She described several cases in detail, including their political dimensions and the philosophical questions they raise. The talk was fascinating, both for our students who are considering careers in the law, and for those interested in how the law works, and how it connects to political and philosophical issues. Jen answered questions from our students, and gave advice about different paths into a legal career.
