Staff and Student Support

We provide English language support to staff and PGR students in small groups.

Sessions are of up to two hours duration every fortnight and are tailored to meet the needs of the participants. Sessions can include many different areas of focus, but the most frequent topics that we are asked to cover are as follows:

Spoken Communication Skills

  • Presentation skills
  • Clarity of speech
  • Pronunciation
  • Lecture delivery

Written Communication Skills

  • Research papers
  • Conference abstracts
  • Business reports
  • Emails

General Language Skills

  • Social English
  • Telephoning
  • Extending vocabulary
  • Understanding accents

Who can participate?

Any member of staff can or PGR research student take part. This includes visiting academics and researchers who are working at the university on a temporary basis. Those working in professional services across the university are also welcome. A needs analysis is conducted for each participant. Following this, groups are arranged so that staff with like-minded aims and language interests are placed together.

Do you offer one-to-one tuition?

We are able to offer one-to-one tuition in limited and specific circumstances. This is subject to available resources. One-to-one tuition is a more costly option, so we do encourage you to consider small group sessions first. If you are sure that you need one-to-one support, please let us know and we can discuss this with you.

Do you arrange a proof-reading service?

We do not offer any proof reading or English language correction service, either for students or staff; if you need this, you would need to arrange it privately with a third party. If you are struggling to find someone to help, however, please contact us and we will do our best to advise.

How do I register my interest?

You do not need to complete the In-sessional registration form. Instead, if you are interested in taking part or need support, please send an email to insessional@warwick.ac.uk In your communication with us, please outline your needs and how we might be able to help.
