Health and Safety

The University's Health, Safety and Wellbeing departmentLink opens in a new window provides specialist advice on fire control, chemical safety, food safety and wellbeing.

They also provide training for individuals on topics such as fire awareness (mandatory for all staff), setting up your work station, manual handling, and writing a Risk Assessment.

WGA Health and Safety

The Department considers that high standards of health and safety are of paramount importance. We view compliance with legal requirements as the minimum acceptable health and safety standard and we are committed to to the planning, review and development of health and safety arrangements, in line with changes in health and safety legislation, in order to achieve continual improvement in performance.

Purpose and Procedure

All staff, students and others working in the Department are expected to adopt a positive attitude to health and safety issues and must comply with appropriate legal requirements and University requirements as detailed in the University’s Health and Safety Policy.

As Head of Department, Professor Nina-Anne Lawrence, holds the ultimate responsibility for the health and safety within WGA, and may delegate maintenance, monitoring, development and implementation of health and safety policy and practices to the Departmental Health and Safety Officer (DHSO), Joanne Scarr (ext. 75780).
