Welcome to the Enterprise Research Centre
The Enterprise Research Centre’s (ERC) mission is to answer one central question, ‘What drives SME Growth and Productivity?’
Our aim is to become a focal point internationally for research, knowledge and expertise on SME growth and entrepreneurship. ERC brings the evidence base on SMEs and enterprise together, drives out new research insights and works with policy makers and practitioners to ensure research shapes better policies and practices to help SMEs to grow.
Funding for the Centre is provided by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), Innovate UK (IUK) and the British Business Bank (BBB). We are very grateful for their support.
ERC’s New Project Pipeline
The Enterprise Research Centre (ERC) was established in February 2013. Our research is project based and reflects a number of core themes each linked to growth; Growth Ambition, Management and Leadership, Diversity, Finance and Governance, Innovation and Exporting and Business Demography.
2016 sees the start of ERC’s new series of research projects with a focus on the drivers of SME growth and productivity. Key topics include the role of innovation and commercialisation in promoting productivity, the impact of barriers to finance on internationalisation, the role of management and leadership in promoting growth and a continuing focus on wider business demography.
ERC Phase 2 core research programme
The ERC is a network of researchers with a core team based at Warwick and Aston Business Schools. The Centre is led by Professors Stephen Roper of Warwick and Mark Hart of Aston University, and supported by our Centre Managers at Warwick and Aston. Each project is led by a Senior Researcher who is responsible for the project outputs with contributions from both our team of Research Fellows and oversight from ERC’s Directors. Our senior researchers are world-class academics from both Aston and Warwick Universities as well as from our partner institutions which include Imperial College, Queens University Belfast and the University of Strathclyde.
