Avoiding plagiarism: summarising, quoting and paraphrasing - Wednesday 14 November
Not sure when you should be paraphrasing, summarising or quoting? Not sure if you’re paraphrasing correctly? Worried you might be plagiarising?
In this session, we will look at the differences between summarising, quoting and paraphrasing and you will be given some practical tips on how to perform each effectively. You will develop a deeper understanding of what is plagiarism. You will look at some examples of what is/ is not plagiarism and poor practice in writing, and look at typical mistakes that international students often make.
Please bring along a sample of your writing which you have already submitted or a draft of one you are working on at the moment (this does not have to be a final draft). You will have the opportunity to assess your own writing during the session
This workshop is for Postgraduate Students only and will run Wednesday 14 November, 15.30 – 17.00, in Room 1.009
