Kenilworth Castle, a vast medieval fortress that endured a famous siege and later became an Elizabethan palace, this is among Britain’s biggest historical sites. Run by English Heritage, it is well worth a visit. Opening hours: 10am - 5pm. Cost: £14.20 per adult.

Abbey Fields, a Scheduled Ancient Monument comprising the grounds of the old Abbey is a large area of parkland including sections of the old Abbey and St Nicholas' Church and graveyard. Open all day, every day. No admission fee.

Much of Old Kenilworth is worth a stroll around, including the area known as Little Virginia, often cited as the spot Sir Walter Raleigh planted the first potato in England. A Heritage trail can be followed to take you around the most important sites in this town's history, or one centered on the Castle and Abbey, for the full story of the centrepiece of this lovely English town.
