Global Connections: A Transdisciplinary Approach Connected Learning Community

The community offers a transdisciplinary approach to learning through an innovative and research-led discussion format that encourages students to share insights as co-collaborators. We offer a range of activities that deal with topics such as migration, the environment, etc. which can be approached from different perspectives and pose transdisciplinary challenges. Seminars, workshops, and practical activities guide the learning experience, and are facilitated by specialists from a range of subject areas who are engaged in globally oriented projects. Students are encouraged to integrate their own disciplinary knowledge, personal experiences, and reflections as they examine the complexities of global connections.

Our Modules & Activities

IL205/IL305: Global Connections: A Transdisciplinary Approach (EUTOPIA)

This module is offered by the Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (IATL) and is available at 15 CATS to undergraduates from across the University of Warwick who are in their 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year of study.

As a part of this module’s learning experience, you will have the opportunity to take part in a cross-university, international project with students from different disciplinary backgrounds from across Europe. Global Connections has been selected as an official learning unit of the European University Alliance EUTOPIA, which connects students to engage with transdisciplinary, global issues.

Cross-Campus Online Student Projects

Each academic year, the community runs 2 cross-campus student project months on a specific globally-oriented theme:

  • Autumn term: Migration
  • Spring term: Climate

In cross-university, cross-disciplinary and cross-level teams, students have carte blanche to create an artefact in the medium of their choice which reflects their diverse perspectives and approaches to the specific theme.

Since 2022, the community has run 6 Online Student Projects, with 230 students participating overall, who have worked on 54 projects. You can view some of the excellent projects our student teams created in the IATL Assessement Exhibition HERE.

Since 2024, students from the 4 participating institutions receive a EUTOPIA Micro-Credential (2 ECTS equivalent), and Warwick students can also earn points towards their Warwick Award.
