Chevening Scholarships
Chevening Scholarships enable outstanding emerging leaders from all over the world to pursue one-year master’s degrees in the UK. Competition for the awards is rigorous and expectations of the scholars are high. One former Warwick Chevening scholar is His Excellency Luis Arce Catacora who graduated with a master's in Economics in 1999 and subsequently pursued a career in politics to become the President of the Plurinational State of Bolivia.
Warwick is delighted to have welcomed 30 Cheveners to our University this year. Our new scholars come from 22 different countries spread from Uruguay in the west to Fiji in the east. Their academic interests are varied with the scholars enrolled in 10 academic departments.
One of last year's Chevening Scholars, Itumeleng Sebeho, shared an insight into his typical day at Warwick:
Meet some of our current Chevening Scholars

I started my master with three main goals: to improve my leadership skills, grow my network, and learn how to bring my business idea to life.
When I first arrived at the university, I was amazed by the diversity of my cohort. This has been a great chance to meet people from different backgrounds and learn from their experiences.
The lecturers provide a good understanding of business, but I’ve also realized that understanding people and how to manage them is just as important and I am definitely getting that with my classmates. Also, coming from the Caribbean, I thought I wouldn’t like the cold, and I still don’t, but there’s something about the university that made me feel at home right away.
Now that I’m used to it, my main focus is to make the most of this year. I want to improve my business idea and build the right connections, so I can launch my business as soon as I finish my studies.

I am deeply grateful to Warwick Business School, the University of Warwick, and the Chevening Secretariat for this incredible opportunity.
I am confident that the skills and knowledge I will gain through this experience will strengthen my ability to make informed and strategic decisions in managing information systems at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, contributing to the progress and well-being of my country and its people.

My first impressions of the University of Warwick are overwhelmingly positive. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the vibrant, intellectually stimulating atmosphere on campus. Moreover, the warm welcome I received from both students and faculty has made me feel part of a global community committed to creating impactful change.
As a Chevening scholar from Syria, I carry with me the hopes of contributing to the advancement of Biomedical Engineering in both the UK and my homeland. Biomedical engineering is a rapidly evolving field, and I am deeply passionate about using its potential to improve healthcare systems and develop cutting-edge medical technologies.
In Syria, where healthcare infrastructure faces ongoing challenges, I hope to apply the skills and knowledge I gain here to lead initiatives that can make a lasting difference. In the year ahead, I hope to refine my technical expertise, particularly in developing accessible medical devices, and to become an advocate for science and technology in both the UK and Syria.
This experience will allow me to become a leader in my field, shaping a future where advanced healthcare technology is available to all, regardless of geography.

My first impression of the campus was nothing short of magical, with its vast green spaces, peaceful lakes, and the charming sight of ducks and squirrels everywhere.
This environment has been a constant source of motivation, offering a serene space to focus and reflect. The Welcome Week was another highlight, filled with great activities and diverse communities that made me excited to engage with people from all over the world. It’s truly inspiring to be part of such an inclusive environment.
My classes in the Medical School have been a remarkable experience as well—the professionalism, expertise, and depth of knowledge shared by both professors and peers are already shaping my perspective in public health.
I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to be at one of the top 5 universities in the UK, a place I have long dreamed of being, and each day here makes me feel inspired, blessed, and motivated to achieve even more.
The Chevening scholarship has already given me the incredible opportunity to be here at Warwick, a place I’ve dreamed of for years. I hope that this experience will also allow me to engage with international leaders who share similar big goals. Each of us has a message to bring to the world, and as Chevening scholars, we unite in our vision to create positive change for our countries and beyond. I hope this scholarship will open doors for me to engage, involve, participate, and collaborate with inspiring individuals who are as passionate as I am about making the world a better place.

Four years ago, I started thinking about joining Warwick university and began applying for Chevening scholarship to make my dream true and proudly here I am studying at Warwick.
I’m Lucky enough to have such knowledgeable and cooperative tutors, also glad that I have been chosen by Chevening to demonstrate my skills and evolve them through socializing with various communities and exchanging ideas with like-minded scholars.
As a female, I am glad to learn from this experience to shine and empower young ladies who are passionate about teaching English language.

Three weeks into Warwick, I find myself amazed by the whirlwind of opportunities that lie before me. From vibrant socials to informative and engaging career and networking events, the university ensures its students have everything they need to lead a fulfilling academic experience.
While it can feel a bit overwhelming at times, I constantly remind myself that this is the very life I once dreamed of living, and one that I am deeply grateful for.
My goal is to leave Warwick as a more confident, culturally aware individual, with lasting friendships across the globe, and the skills needed to thrive as a Digital Marketing specialist.

Warwick is such a vibrant and welcoming place—it truly feels like a big, beautiful home, just like being part of a family. One of the things I love most here is the incredible cultural diversity. Every day, I have the chance to meet and befriend people from all walks of life and different backgrounds, which has been such an enriching experience.
Through this scholarship, I’m excited to not only excel in my degree but also take those skills back home to make a meaningful difference in my country, especially in improving the public health sector. It’s my dream to contribute to something bigger and better for my community.
This scholarship is also giving me the chance to spread my wings and fulfill my childhood dream of exploring new places and seeing different parts of the world—something I’ve always dreamed of but haven’t had the opportunity to do until now.
I’m beyond grateful for this journey and eager to see where it takes me!
