One World Warwick: Honouring Our Scholars

On Monday night, the Global Excellence Event, part of One World Warwick, brought together and celebrated over 200 students awarded prestigious scholarships. Hosted by Professor Michael Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), the event united recipients of an Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarship and Global Partnership Scholars to recognise their achievements and foster connections.

The atmosphere was vibrant as scholars from 56 countries met for the first time, sharing their impressions of Warwick and aspirations for the year ahead. Warwick’s Chancellor, Advocate Bience Gawanas, opened the event with an inspiring address, followed by remarks from Andrew Chadwick, Director of the Chevening Secretariat, and Omana Wijeratne, a second-year WUGES scholar.

Warwick partners with organisations such as the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, embassies, governments, employers, foundations, and funding bodies to support exceptional international students. These partnerships thrive because Warwick offers a world-class, research-led learning environment and dedicated support for funding bodies. Our scholars enrich the Warwick community with diverse skills, experiences, and cultures.

As part of our commitment to reducing financial barriers for talented and ambitious international learners, Warwick launched the Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarships in 2021. Over five years, 547 scholars from 72 countries have joined the scheme. In 2025, Warwick received over 2,500 applications and welcomed 97 new scholars across all three Faculties.

Professor Michael Scott commented;

"One World Warwick celebrates the richness of our global community through events and initiatives that showcase Warwick’s cultural diversity, international partnerships and research collaborations.

The Global Excellence Event embodies this spirit, honouring the achievements and brilliance of our scholars coming from across the globe, highlighting the partnerships that make these opportunities possible, and creating meaningful connections for the future.”
