Warwick Announces New Director of the Warwick Venice Centre

The University of Warwick is pleased to announce the appointment, effective 01 August 2025, of Dr Bryan Brazeau as the new Director of the Warwick Venice Centre.

This strategic leadership role will see Dr Brazeau working in close collaboration with Professor Michael Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), to guide the Centre into its next phase of growth and innovation.

The Warwick Venice Centre plays a vital role in the University’s global engagement strategy, serving as a hub for interdisciplinary research, teaching, and cultural exchange in the heart of Venice. As Director, Dr Brazeau will lead the Centre’s academic and operational activities, fostering partnerships with Venetian cultural and higher education institutions, the Venetian community, and supporting research, educational, and public engagement initiatives across all Warwick Faculties.

Dr Brazeau said I am honoured to take on the role of Director of the Warwick Venice Centre at such a pivotal moment in its development. The Centre represents a unique bridge between Warwick and the rich living cultural and academic landscape of Venice. I look forward to working with colleagues across the University and expanding our use of the Centre to serve as many departments, students, and staff as possible. I also look forward to working with the Venetian community and our partners in Italy, Europe, and around the world to expand the Centre’s positive impact. I hope to foster new collaborations, and to create truly transformative opportunities for teaching, research, and global engagement.

Bryan brings a dynamic vision and a deep commitment to interdisciplinary and international education, as well as a strong record of collaborating with our strategic Venetian, and wider global, partners, which will be invaluable as the Centre enters its next chapter.

I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to Dr Luca Molà for his outstanding leadership and dedication during his tenure. His expertise and tireless work have been instrumental in strengthening the Centre’s academic profile, Venetian and global partnerships, laying a strong foundation for its continued success.

About Bryan

Dr Bryan Brazeau is Reader and outgoing Head of Liberal Arts at the University of Warwick, where he also serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies and SCFS Venice Academic Lead. A specialist in early modern Italian literature, poetics, and interdisciplinary education, he holds a PhD in Italian Studies from New York University. Since joining Warwick in 2015, Dr Brazeau has played a key role in developing international partnerships and study abroad programmes, including launching the SCFS Warwick Venice Programme as part of the WIISP framework. His research explores Renaissance literature, ecocriticism, classical reception, and early modern philosophy, with a current focus on the narrative works of Lucrezia Marinella. He is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a recipient of multiple Warwick Awards for teaching and personal tutoring excellence.
