Warwick Celebrates Five Years of EUTOPIA Connected Communities

The University of Warwick is celebrating five years of transformative collaboration through the EUTOPIA alliance, a significant milestone in its commitment to challenge-led education and inclusive internationalisation across Europe.

To mark the occasion, Warwick has published a position paper Link opens in a new windowthat reflects on the journey, impact and future direction of the Connected Communities initiative. The publication showcases how students and staff from across the alliance have co-created innovative learning experiences, fostered intercultural dialogue, and driven pedagogic innovation.

Connected Communities have played a vital role in advancing Warwick’s strategic priorities in education and global engagement. Developed under the academic leadership of Professor Jo Angouri (former Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor: Education and Internationalisation and EUTOPIA Curriculum Developer 2019-2025), the initiative has been shaped by a diverse network of academics, staff, and students. It has supported the development of flexible curricula, inclusive teaching practices, and meaningful cross-border partnerships.

Case studies featured in the paper illustrate the initiative’s impact on both teaching and learning, with Warwick at the forefront of shaping the future of European higher education.

Reflecting on the milestone, Professor Jo Angouri said:

Connected Communities are at the heart of our vision for inclusive, challenge-led education. Over the past five years, we’ve seen how collaboration across borders can transform learning and empower both students and educators. This initiative is not just about internationalisation, it’s about building a shared academic culture rooted in equity, creativity, and mutual respect.
