Warwick leads national careers roadshow to support Chinese students into employment

On 1st and 2nd March 2019, the University of Warwick led a joint university careers roadshow tailored to employment opportunities in China and Hong Kong. Over 4,000 students from 10 UK universities attended the events, which ran over two days across two locations, at the University of Manchester and the University of Warwick.

Students had the opportunity to meet with over 30 globally influential employers and heard presentations from a panel of Senior Chinese Human Resource Directors about the skills required for graduate employment in China and beyond. Maria Forrest, overseas graduate recruitment, KPMG China, said:

"This really is the ‘must attend’ campus event of the year for employers recruiting across China – the only chance to meet Chinese students from such a variety of top universities. The excellent organisation of the roadshow means it is a great opportunity for KPMG China to meet and talk with our target students on a huge scale!”

Five senior HR Directors from the British Council China, GSK, Everbright Bank, Zhaopin and CPA Australia opened the event with an industry insight panel presentation, which was attended by nearly 1,000 students on the day. Warwick was one of only 4 locations that the panel chose to present at during their biennial visit to the UK. Qi Qi, Head of Education Marketing, British Council China, said:

"All the speakers spoke to us about how happy and excited they were to be given the opportunity to share their experience with students, both at the Warwick China Fair and at the Warwick Welcome Dinner on Friday evening. It was also a great opportunity for our speakers to understand the thinking and concerns of current students, which provides valuable feedback for them to review their overseas campus recruitment strategies"

Frances Gong, Regional Manager China for CPA Australia who sponsored the events and welcome dinner said:

"It is always such a pleasure to work with the Warwick team. I know how much work you put into this roadshow and your other international employability initiatives. We recognise how your support of students and employers really sets Warwick apart from the other universities."

Esther de Perlaky, International Employer Liaison Manager, University of Warwick, who leads on Warwick's international employability strategy said:

"This year, we took the decision to expand the Warwick-led China Careers Fair to two locations in the UK and also expand our UK university partners to include Manchester, Oxford, Birmingham, Nottingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Lancaster, Bath and Bristol. We know that Chinese and Asian employers wish to meet with a variety of students when they visit the UK and the Warwick China Fair Road Show provides the ideal platform for this. The Fair is part of our international employability strategy and helps to confirm our growing reputation of leading on international employability initiatives for our students."
