Latin America Distinguished Lecture
H.E. Ignacio Higueras Hare, Ambassador of Peru to the UK

The University of Warwick is honoured to host a Distinguished Lecture by H.E. Ignacio Higueras Hare, Ambassador of Peru to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Lecture title: Conditions and lessons of Latin American economic integration - A perspective from Peru in today's world.
With a diplomatic career that spans over 35 years, Ambassador Higueras has twice been appointed Peruvian Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, in 2021 and 2022- 2024. He has been chief adviser for the Peruvian accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and was designated to represent Peru in the negotiations with Bolivia on the new statute of the Autonomous Binational Authority of the Lake Titicaca. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has occupied positions in the Direction of Social Affairs and Human Rights; Direction of Economic Promotion; Office of Press and Public Relations and the Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs. He has also been Head of the Chile portfolio, Director for Mercosur Affairs as well as Director of Integration.
Ambassador Higueras has held a number of appointments outside of Peru. He has been Ambassador of Peru in Colombia, Deputy Consul General in Paris, Head of Foreign Affairs at the Embassy of Peru in the Kingdom of Belgium, Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, and the European Union. He has also been Head of the Department of Drugs and Political-Military Affairs at the Embassy of Peru in the United States of America and officer of the Economic and Commercial Department of the Embassy of Peru in Chile.

17:00 onwards: Refreshments and the opportunity to view a selection of illustrations by Peruvian artist Issa Watanabe, from her book Migrants. Migrants is a vital and powerful wordless picture book of courage, loss and hope—the definitive story of what it takes to migrate to a new land.
