New Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International - Americas)

Professor Mohan Balasubramanian has been appointed as Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Americas).

About the role

As Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Americas), Mohan will lead Warwick’s engagement across the Americas, aligning with the University’s international objectives. Forging international collaborations in education and research with partners across the Americas, Mohan will be supporting the growth of our global network, international student recruitment, international educational opportunities for all our students, and the development of our inter-cultural campus.

Professor Michael Scott, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (International), commented:

“I am delighted that Mohan is joining the International Executive as DPVC (Americas). This is an exciting and important time as we set about embedding a new University International strategy, in which growing meaningful connections across the Americas has an integral role. We will create strong partnerships, which all of our students and staff, as well as those of our partners, can benefit from, and through which we can deliver solutions to global challenges and enhance our way of life. Mohan is uniquely qualified to lead this work and I am looking forward to working with him, and all of you, in taking our Warwick global network to the next level.”

Mohan told us:

Warwick is poised to develop exciting partnerships in the United States, Canada, Latin America and the Caribbean, and I am looking forward to working with the PVC, the international executive and the International Strategy Relations teams to achieve these goals."

About Professor Mohan Balasubramanian

Mohan started his journey by studying chemistry at Madras University in India. He then went on to learn about microbiology and biotechnology in Baroda, India. For his PhD, Mohan researched cell division in fission yeast at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada. After completing his PhD, Mohan continued his research in the USA at Vanderbilt University. Later, he joined the National University of Singapore, where he became a professor and deputy director at a major science lab.

In October 2013, Mohan moved to the UK to join Warwick Medical School as Pro-Dean (Research), staying there until August 2022.

Mohan’s research has received support from many key funding organisations. His research group continues to investigate mechanisms by which molecular-scale forces are generated to accomplish cell division.

With experience in five different countries, Mohan has also served on many international committees. Since September 2022, he has been the Director of the Institute of Advanced Study at Warwick.
