New study will uncover the links between adolescent disability and socio-economic disadvantage in early adulthood

A three-year study at the Department of Sociology of the University of Warwick, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, will explore why disabled young people in England experience social and economic disadvantage into adulthood. The fact that adolescent disability is generally associated with poor educational, social and employment outcomes in adulthood has been well-documented but the reasons why this happens are not as well understood. The new study aims to close that gap.


Thermonuclear blast sends supernova survivor star hurtling across the Milky Way

An exploding white dwarf star blasted itself out of its orbit with another star in a ‘partial supernova’ and is now hurtling across our galaxy, according to a new study from the University of Warwick's Astrophysics Group.It opens up the possibility of many more survivors of supernovae travelling undiscovered through the Milky Way, as well as other types of supernovae occurring in other galaxies that astronomers have never seen before.

Report reveals full cost of failure to tackle youth violence effectively

The final report of the cross-party Youth Violence Commission (YVC), supported by researchers from the University of Warwick and The Open University is launched today (Monday 13 July) calling for specific action to tackle the rising social and financial costs of youth violence.


International Conference of Women in Engineering postponed until 2021

It was announced in May last year (2019) that the University of Warwick has won the bid to plan, organise and host the 18th International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES18) for September 2020, however due to the current COViD-19 pandemic the event has been pushed back to 2021.

The conference was previously held at Warwick (ICWES9) in 1991, ICWES18 will now return to Warwick on 1-4 September 2021.
