Health scientists from University of Warwick join prestigious Academy of Medical Sciences Fellowship
The Academy of Medical Sciences has elected 50 of the UK’s leading figures within biomedical and health sciences to their esteemed Fellowship, including two University of Warwick scientists, it has been announced today.
University of Warwick to host International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists in 2020
The University of Warwick has won the bid to plan, organise and host the 18th International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists (ICWES18) for 2020. Previously held at Warwick (ICWES9) in 1991, ICWES18 returns at Warwick on 11-14 September 2020.
Online tool for carers in Coventry and Warwickshire unveiled to politicians
Local carers have met with politicians to demonstrate a new tool to help them deal with the daily challenges of life when caring for friend or loved one.
The Rt Hon Jeremy Wright QC MP Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and Member of Parliament for Kenilworth and Southam, and Matt Western MP, Member of Parliament for Warwick and Leamington, were present for the launch of the Care Companion on 26 April at Stratford Hospital. The Care Companion is a new online support tool developed by Warwick Medical School, at the University of Warwick, to support people with caring responsibilities across Warwickshire and Coventry.
Verifiable e-voting to be trialled in Gateshead
A new verifiable e-voting system will be trialled in Gateshead this May. Voters get a receipt which they can check to make sure their vote is properly cast, recorded and tallied while preserving the voter privacy – a process known as being “end-to-end verifiable”. Tallying results are instantaneous once the election is finish along with public audit data to allow anyone to verify the tallying integrity. The trial will be voluntary for people going to cast votes via paper ballot.
New forensic centre to support police investigating homicide
WMG at the University of Warwick has secured investment from West Midlands Police for the WMG Forensic Centre for Digital Scanning and 3D printing – a research hub supporting Homicide Investigation. Where they can scan and reproduce 3D prints of injuries to bones to help in court testimonies.
Warwick academics win prestigious award for book on Muslim women and politics
Muslim Women and Power: Political and Civic Engagement in West European Societies by Dr Khursheed Wadia and Professor Danièle Joly has won the prestigious W.J.M. Mackenzie Prize, awarded annually by the Political Studies Association (PSA). The book explores how Muslim women participate in western civic and political life and develop their capacity for action.
