Building on the work of the Department of Continuing Education, which was formally disbanded at the start of this academic year, a new Centre has been established, bringing together a number of the University's lifelong learning and widening participation activities.

The new Centre for Lifelong Learning aims to help Warwick achieve its strategic objectives of improving access and enabling and encouraging the broadest participation in its programmes and cultivating close and productive links with the University’s local and regional communities. It has responsibility for the University’s lifelong learning provision up to first degree level, in particular the open studies, part-time degree, 2+2 and foundation degree programmes.

The Centre also acts as a focal point within the University for external links and networks with a broad range of local, national and regional organisations with an interest in lifelong learning. It has a well-established relationship with the University’s partner Further Education Colleges, through the long-standing 2+2 collaboration and the more recent foundation degree developments, as well as a growing programme of FE teacher training provided by open studies and the Certificate in Education programme.

The Warwick Learning Account and Warwick Skills Programme are run from the Centre and it also provides a base for the University's widening participation officer and has responsibility for the management of the University’s Hillfields Centre in Coventry.
