Do You Know a Silver Surfer?

The search is on for the Silver Surfer of the year 2003.

If you are, or you know of, someone who is over 50 and doing inspired things on the Internet or with email then Silver Surfer Day is a chance to recognise their achievements. The event is on 16 May 2003 and is part of Adult Learners' Week.

Silver Surfers' Day celebrates the contribution that people aged 50 and over are making to the evolving world of the Internet through the way they are embracing new technology. The day also aims to introduce first timers to the internet and email via organisations and agencies throughout the UK.

A potential Silver Surfer of the Year doesn't need to be an advanced computer user - it's more what he or she does with their knowledge that counts, and also the obstacles (personal and otherwise) they've had to overcome in order to do these things.

Hairnet, an IT training company, are sponsoring the competition with support from City and Guilds, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education, Research Machines and Age Concern.

More information about Silver Surfers' Day and an download an application form are available at http://www.silversurfersday.org. The closing date for entries is 11 April 2003.
