Val Millman has become the first Graduate of the Doctorate in Education Programme offered by the Institute of Education at Warwick.

The EdD is a professional doctorate aimed primarily at those working in education, and focuses on the interplay and relationship between advanced professional issues and academic enquiry. Developed in America, Warwick began to offer this approach to doctoral study in 1998, to both part-time and full-time students. The Institute hopes its EdD will become an increasingly popular mode of doctoral study that will attract professionals in education to study at Warwick.

Val said she has "always felt strongly that educational research should be used to inform policy and practice. It has been encouraging to feel that this approach is given so much emphasis by colleagues in the Institute of Education at Warwick."

The incoming Director of the Programme, Megan Crawford, commented that the Doctorate "seeks to be at the cutting edge of educational development. This first graduation is not only a tribute to all Val's hard work, but also that of the EdD team, in particular Val?s supervisor, Professor Chris Husbands, the outgoing Director, Professor Robert Jackson, and administrator, Jessica Jenner."
