The coming weeks will see the Mathematics and Statistics departments move to their new building on central campus, with the departments moving over the period 8 to 20 December. We will endeavour to provide updates as they become available.

The new building will provide extensive centrally timetabled lecturing and teaching space with rooms to hold 830 people at any one time. There are 1 X 350, 1 X 250, 1 X 80, and 2 X 75 seat rooms (MS01, MS02, MS03, MS04, MS05), all controlled by the Central Timetabling Office.

IT Services will operate 3 computer rooms in the building which will be available to all undergraduate students, There will also be dedicated facilities for Mathematics and Statistics students, including student workrooms and common rooms.

Sue Baines, Academic Administrator for the Department of Mathematics, explains that there will also be blackboards all around the building. “Mathematicians like to have easy access to them! We are even thinking about how we might be able to have a blackboard on the outside roof terrace!”

Undergraduate teaching will be transferred to the new building following the Christmas vacation. All undergraduate students in the Statistics department have already received a map showing the new building and they have all received provisional timetables with their new room numbers.
