Students from the Economics Society will be hosting their annual Economics Summit from 6th-8th February.

Organised by students for students, the summit will see visitors from LSE, UCL, Bath, Bristol, Aston, Royal Holloway, Cambridge, Oxford, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham, Durham and, of course, Warwick.

The Summit, "Money for nothing: the dire straits of the modern economy", consists of a series of thought-provoking lectures from renowned economists followed by group debates and discussions. The aim is to present a contemporary and controversial topic to challenge students to engage in new ways of thinking about the world. The theme this year is economic disaster and insecurity. Confirmed speakers include:

• Leading UK economist John Kay
• Tony Golding, author of The City: The Great Expectation Machine
• Professor Jean-Pierre Lehmann of IMD and pioneer of the Evian Group, Switzerland

This year two new elements have been introduced to the Summit: an inter-University game show, and a Model United Nations Economic and Social Committee session where students can test their diplomatic skills as they debate and amend a controversial mock resolution.

With these new elements together with a cluster of renowned speakers and a challenging theme, this year’s summit in expected to be the most successful yet. This year, they plan to provide a platform for economic debate unlike any of its kind at the university level.
