Victoria Peralta, the National Director for Pre-school Education at the Chilean National Ministry for Education, is paying a visit to the University’s Institute of Education between the 9 and 17 February.

Victoria, a renowned expert in early childhood curriculum and the anthropological basis of curriculum, has written extensively and worked with such organisations as the World Bank, the American State Organisation and UNICEF.

She is visiting colleagues in Warwick’s Childhood Research Unit (CRU) to learn and exchange views and explore the possibility of academic collaboration. The Unit is keen to make international links in line with the demands of the Research Assessment Exercise. Dr Maria Da Costa, who has been instrumental in setting up the visit, explains “This is an opportunity for us to see developments from the other side of the world.”

While she is here Victoria will be participating in an CRU seminar which is being held in conjunction with the Early Years Partnership and giving a talk on Curriculum Reform for Early Childhood in Chile.

All University members are welcome to attend Victoria’s talk which will be held on Monday 9 February from 18.00 to 20.00 at WCE 0.10 in the Institute of Education.

Following last year’s visit from a group of Chilean teachers to CELTE (the Centre for English Language Teacher Education), ECRU have high hopes of a return visit and forging lines of formal collaboration.
