Do you have any expertise in food preparation for expeditions?

Would you like to be part of preparations for the “world’s toughest yacht race”?

If you do, the BG Spirit crew needs YOU!

The Task The BG Spirit crew, one of the yachts participating in the Global Challenge is in the process of planning food and nutrition requirements for the Challenge and are seeking the help of people with expertise in the planning and preparation of foods for expeditions.

As it's important not to carry more weight than absolutely necessary, most of the food for the journey will be freeze-dried to save on weight.

The Challenge The challenge therefore is to make it both nutritious and palatable, ensuring that the crew stay as healthy as possible and avoid developing scurvy.

So if you are: From the Medical School, attached to the Sports Centre or have been on an expedition to the Antarctic, up Everest or something similar and had to engage in the same sort of planning process, the BG Sprit crew needs your help!

The Global Challenge is a yacht race, which is unique in following a westerly route around the world, against the prevailing winds and tides. It is designed to allow people who would not normally have the chance to compete in such a high profile event. No sailing experience is necessary, and the crew consists of women and men from all walks of life.

Warwick’s own Trixie Gadd from the Warwick Business school will be setting sail aboard BG Spirit on this adventure, which starts on 3rd October 2004 from Portsmouth.
