Registrar's University House Update

Originally published 2 April 2004

Departments will begin their moves into University House next week and this process will continue for the next couple of weeks, with the last departments occupying the building on Monday 26th April.

Despite the considerable efforts of the staff involved, it has not proved possible to complete all the building works before the occupation and I am therefore writing to advise you of those areas which will not be accessible from Monday 5th April and the temporary arrangements that will be put in place to maintain operations in the meantime.

Ground Floor South Corridor

The Ground Floor South corridor, along which the Cash Office, Purchasing Office, Ancillary Services office and photocopying/collation room are located, will not be open and accessible until Monday 26th April. The Cash Office and Purchasing Office will not therefore be moving until this date. Photocopiers are distributed elsewhere throughout the building so lack of access to the photocopying room during this two week period should not cause undue problems.

Restaurant Servery

The restaurant servery will not now be completed until early-mid May. I recognise that this is a considerable delay but Warwick Hospitality will be providing a temporary catering service from Monday 5th April, offering a wide range of hot and cold drinks and snacks. This will be served from the meeting rooms adjacent to the restaurant and seating will be available in the dining area. Vending machines will also be in place. Both the temporary and permanent menus can now be viewed on insite at http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/hospitality/catering/university_house/

Student Development and Support Centre and the Learning Grid

The Student Development and Support area on the ground floor will be completed by 13th April and, due to difficulties in installing the new staircase, the Learning Grid will now open in mid-May.

While we will endeavour to minimise the impact of the delays, there will still be contractors operating on site for some time and I would ask that everyone bear with the situation for the time being.

Moving Day - Staff Presence

On a further matter, we have received advice from the removal contractors that it is preferable that large numbers of staff are not present in offices on the specific move dates for health and safety reasons. It will be necessary for a small number of staff to supervise porters, but could you please arrange for those staff who are not already on leave and do not need to be present to undertake some other useful work that does not require them to be in the office on the day of your move or to work from home. It will not be necessary for staff to take annual leave on these dates if they have not already arranged to do so.
