Originally published 1 April 2004

Warwick’s Modern Records Centre (MRC) is home to the Archives Hub website’s Archive Collection of the Month.

The MRC houses important collections of material on British industrial relations and industrial politics as well as the archive collection of the month – The National Cycle Archive.

The National Cycle Archive

Established in 1990 by the Cyclists' Touring Club, The National Cycle Archive comprises books, serials, and records deposited by many cycling bodies and individuals; its objective being the preservation of records relating to cycles and cycling.

The collection includes information from Midlands organisations including:
Birmingham Rim Works, Coventry Cycling Campaign (Cyclic), Coventry Machinists' Company, Coventry Sewing Machine Company, Coventry Veteran Cycle Club, Cyclists' Touring Club: Birmingham and Midland District Association, Midland Counties Cyclists' Association, Midland Gear Case Cycle Co Ltd and West Midlands Cyclist

The 'Collections of the Month' feature highlights collections of topical interest as part of the Archives Hub National Archive Awareness campaign. The Archives Hub provides a single point of access to descriptions of archives held in UK universities.

The Modern Records Centre (MRC) provides access to a wide variety of unique material which is made available in its supervised searchroom including:

  • Archival collections
  • Library Special Collections
  • Warwick theses and dissertations
  • Lord Rootes memorial fund projects
  • University publications

Items in the Library Catalogue with the classmarks [mrc], [spc], and [res dis] can be ordered at the Centre.

Because the archival material is unique, some special conditions will apply and these may affect access and the ability to photocopy. Material cannot be used outside the MRC and, to ensure its preservation, specific rules govern its use in the searchroom. On Wednesdays and Thursdays the MRC is open until 7pm, but all material must be ordered before 5pm.
