How to Read the Table

Remember this is league table season, there are a number of university league tables published by UK newspapers and each presents their statistical data in a slightly different way – they have to be different to sell the papers! No single newspaper university league table should be taken as the gospel truth but taken together they represent a fair overall picture of relative university rankings.

Admissions Equality

The site also features commentary on the results. Sir Peter Lampl, chairman of the Sutton Trust, commissioned a HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England) survey which recently concluded that state-school teenagers are losing out even though their A-level results are on average two grades better than the candidates who are admitted from the independent sector.

All of the top universities except Warwick and York were well below HEFCE’s benchmark targets for admission of state students.

Student Popularity Contest

According to UCAS data Warwick is also within the top ten for student popularity.
