Researchers from the University's newest department, Warwick HRI, have helped the British Mycological Society win their second gold medal at this year’s Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show.

The Chelsea Flower Show is the first time that researchers from Warwick HRI have showcased their expertise since merging with the University in April this year. Success at the Chelsea Flower Show firmly secures Warwick HRI’s position as a world-leader in horticultural research and adds a new dimension to the University’s research portfolio.

The British Mycological Society’s stand, Much Ado about Mushrooms, features as part of the Lifelong Learning in the Garden feature at the show. Warwick HRI researchers were asked to provide the content of the stand, based on our expert mushroom research. Warwick HRI staff also played a major part in constructing the award-winning stand. The display shows how mushrooms grow and how the mushroom industry benefits gardeners.

The Mushroom Research Team at Warwick HRI investigates all stages of mushroom cultivation and science: agronomy, pathology, entomology, genetics, biochemistry and physiology to support and offer futures for the industry and to create new opportunities in fungal biotechnology.

The Much Ado about Mushrooms exhibit can be found on stand GPLL10, Lifelong Learning Area at the Chelsea Flower Show, until 28 May. Warwick HRI experts will be on hand throughout the week.
