Red Square gets long awaited cosmetic surgery
Red Square, the area behind Rootes Residences, is having a face-lift. Work is going to ensure the area is more appealing; it is due for completion by the start of the autumn term. The square been ripe for modification since it lost its status as a primary student leisure area when the Piazza was constructed.
Among the planned improvements is the renovation of the Schottlander sculpture, which will then be placed alongside a new diagonal paved walkway linking Rootes Residence to the rear of Rootes Social Building and the Students’ Union Building. There will also be a secondary path linking to Benefactors Residence. To boost the aesthetic value the area is being lawned and there will be planting beds on three sides of the square.
