The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Research Resources Board has created a new post of Strategic Advisor (Data Resources), and has appointed Professor Peter Elias of the Warwick Institute of Employment Research (WIER) to hold this post, for the next three years at first instance. His remit will be to support and develop the provision of a wide range of data from the social science research community.

There is considerable scope within the post for improving co-ordination between the academic community and the Office for National Statistics and other government departments and agencies, further improving the quality and availability of information for research purposes.

Commenting on this award, which carries an ESRC bursary of ?0.5m, director of WIER Professor Robert Lindley highlighted the post as deserved recognition for Professor Elias? work, and the excellence of WIER and Warwick University generally. Professor Elias begins his work as Strategic Advisor in October 2004.
