A University of Warwick production about a newly discovered Shakespeare portrait has become the most downloaded film on Apple's iTunes U service.

The film, made in collaboration with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, has been a massive hit with over 20,000 downloads over the weekend 14th and 15th March.

The film has also received prominent coverage on the Apple home page and news network as well as a profile on the Quicktime Entertainment Guide alongside hiphop star, Flo Rida, and rock group, Razorlight.

Warwick also has a strong presence in the top download charts for Health and Medicine, History, Literature and Mathematics and overall has 8 programmes in the Top 100 downloads across iTunes U.

In Health and Medicine, Peter Abraham’s anatomy films that use plastinated specimens have been in the top two since they were published and in Mathematics Ian Stewart’s Maths Challenges have proved equally popular.

Apple's iTunes U launched in Europe in 2007 to provide universities and other establishments with an online service to share educational audio and video to their students and the wider web.

Warwick became only the fourth UK university to launch on the site in January this year and has already experienced over 100,000 downloads with 428 programmes now published on the service.
