Students at the University of Warwick have been scouting around campus making low-to-no budget films as part of the Warwick Shootout Awards, and the winning films will be showcased at Warwick Arts Centre cinema on Tuesday 24^th June.

The challenge, for those who chose to accept it, was to write and shoot an original short film in 24 hours. Competitors were also given places and objects that they had to include in their film.

This competition began in 2005 as part of the University of Warwick 40^th anniversary celebrations, and is based on the Australian Shootout competitions. Now in its fourth consecutive year, Warwick Shootout is an integral part of the Warwick calendar.

In true Oscar style, awards are given for the best film, best performance, best sound track, best cinematography and best response to brief. And although we don’t expect throngs of Paparazzi at the awards gala, onlookers are guaranteed to be entertained by the screening of the shortlisted films.

The judging panel included Barrie Keefe, best known for is award-winning film ‘The Long Good Friday’, David Holloway, who has worked on Robin of Sherwood and London’s Burning, short-film maker Paul Hardy, the novelist A L Kennedy, and Dr Tim White, lecturer in Theatre Studies at Warwick University.

The Warwick Shootout Screening will showcase all fourteen shortlisted films from the competition at Warwick Arts Centre cinema on Tuesday 24^th June, starting at 12.00.
