As a result of the introduction of AS Levels, and a general unwillingness of schools to release students during the week, the University has seen a year on year decline in students and parents attending the Spring Open Day.

After much consultation with the University departments and consideration by the Steering Committee, University Open Day will be moved on a trial basis to a Saturday for one year. This will take place on Saturday 24th April 2004.

The move marks an attempt to evaluate issues such as parking, catering and general overcrowding that usually impact Open Day activities. It also makes it more convenient for the mature students, who have often not had the opportunity to come to Open Days, to be able to participate.

The Open day will see extra activities put on by the Students’ Union, which they have not been able to provide before now, along with usual subject presentations, tours, exhibitions and other activities.

A créche facility will be made available for anyone involved in the Open Day who needs assistance with childcare. Letters will be sent out shortly to colleagues to verify who would like to use this facility.

Furthermore, a significant number of additional Student Ambassadors will be recruited to work on that day along with those who may normally be involved.

The Warwick Visits service will still be offered to those people who are unable to attend the Open Day. Over 1500 people utilised this service this summer and feedback was very positive.
