The University of Warwick has unveiled a brand-new £4.2 million clinical anatomy and clinical skills facility – set to train the medics of the future.

The Clinical Education Hub at Beehive offers state-of-the-art, purpose-designed spaces for clinical anatomy and clinical skills education. It will provide essential learning opportunities for medical students, clinical practitioners, surgeons, and allied healthcare professionals.

The facility hosts a realistic hospital ward and a range of flexible clinical spaces and simulation areas for students to develop their clinical skills.

As a Human Tissue Authority licensed space, the facility also benefits from the UK’s largest collection of plastinated human specimens from von Hagens Plastination (Germany). This enhances and accelerates the learning of human anatomy relevant to clinical practice and surgical and interventional procedures, including ‘Point of Care’ diagnosis using ultrasound.


While the facility officially launched yesterday, 4 June, students from Warwick medical school have already benefitted from access to its unique facilities, driving their understanding of the human body and gaining essential clinical skills needed in their future careers.

Kylie Maisey, First year MB ChB student, said: “I have found it so useful in putting the taught theory into practice, seeing how it works in real life. I was able to work with real patients in my first week of my medical degree, which is fabulous. I wanted to get stuck in and I have been able to do so in a really supportive environment. By being able to interact with patients from the outset alongside the theory, I feel that I will be able to develop the whole package of skills I need to become a doctor.”

Professor Richard Tunstall, Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick, said: “Our new facility is specifically designed to enable the use of cutting-edge evidence-based educational practices in clinical anatomy and skills training. We are now able to offer some of the most progressive training in the world. Importantly, our new facility will enable us to work closely with healthcare partners and providers to benefit training at local, national and international levels.”
