A University of Warwick alumnus has raised over £7 million (€8.5 million) for his start-up company, which uses AI to decarbonize the chemical industry.

The company – Entalpic – uses AI to quickly identify the most promising material candidates from an almost infinite number of possibilities.

It explores new material structures, which means it looks at different combinations of atoms in 3D, and then predicts how these new structures will behave.

This allows them to rapidly narrow down the options, so scientists can focus on the most interesting candidates for various applications.

These can include improving hydrogen production, creating better semiconductors for batteries, or even making more sustainable cement.

Co-founder Alexandre Duval, originally from Paris, graduated from Warwick in 2019 after studying Mathematical Sciences.

Entalpic, which is based in Paris, has raised the funding from venture capitalists and existing businesses, and is developing solutions for energy storage, fertilizer production, and pollution control.

The company not only determines the optimal chemical formulations but also perfects the manufacturing processes to ensure reproducibility—a current industry gap.
