Founder

The University's founding Vice-Chancellor was Mr J.B. Butterworth (Lord Butterworth), who guided the University through its formative years and provided much of the vision for the University's future growth and success. His achievement was to establish Warwick firmly on the national stage, to set a basic strategy and culture for the University which still obtains today and to oversee the building of a university on what was a greenfield site.

Campus

The University of Warwick has grown from a few green fields into 292 hectares of world-class academic departments, peaceful lakes and woodlands. The campus has, over the last 40 years, become increasingly attractive even as it has grown steadily in size. It was recently rated the 'best campus' in the UK. There has been extensive tree planting and the creation of eight lakes and ponds which have provided a haven for wildlife as well as a very pleasant location for the local community.

Location

The University is located in the heart of England, adjacent to the historic city of Coventry. The campus is on the edge of Shakespeare’s’ county, with Warwick Castle, Stratford upon Avon and the Cotswolds all within a close distance.

International population

Resources

The Libraries on Campus have over one million volumes in their collections. Warwick’s Libraries offer the service of professional librarians whose mission is to help students learn to negotiate and research through a maze of current day information gathering tools. The introduction of the Learning Grid has meant that students have access to first rate technology and service orientated staff round the clock, making the library system a central part of the academic experience for Warwick Students.
