External Contracting with Oxford Quantum Circuits
OQC Summary:
The SCRTP worked with Oxford Quantum Circuits to take on some difficult hardware and software compatibility challenges for some bleeding edge frameworks we are try to develop to further our Quantum Computer developments in 2024. These were specifically for Nvidia hardware and software. To compound this, we had few members of the team who could sit alongside Pip while he undertook the work. Pip was a great fit for us, he bridges the academic and industrial world very well and has good up-to-date knowledge of both. His mature attitude and skill meant that we were soon able to trust him and he was working autonomously on problems where we couldn't directly guide him. Pip was honest in his dealings with us and seemed to hold our interests in the highest regards, which was widely appreciated. Pip was highly communicative and let us know when he hit problems, what help he needed as well as what progress he was making. Our initial partnership with SRTCP has gone well and we are encouraged to use them again on future work. I have a strong preference for continued work with Pip given his aptitude for the harder challenges we faced. Owen Arnold - Director of Software Engineering
RSE Summary:
Working with OQC was a great opportunity to bridge the gap between bleeding edge tech startups and RSE/academic work. The project to create frameworks and enable them to effectively access the latest hardware for their R&D was challenging. Using reproducible science techniques the deployment was reusable and held up against a redeployment which is often necessary on cutting edge hardware that may not have long term stable releases. This work has led to a foundation for a future working relationship and shown how RSE and Industry can be mutually beneficial.
