Research Culture Forum

About the Forum

The Research Culture Forum brings together researchers, technicians, PGR students, and Professional Services Staff to have open and collaborative discussions about the University’s research culture, to share best practice and influence developments in this area.

The Forum is keen to receive input from across the Warwick research community and would like to hear from colleagues that have feedback about our research culture. Details of members are below, or please contact ResearchCulture@warwick.ac.uk for more information.

Terms of Reference

  1. To review relevant sector, national and international reports and publications to provide a framework and context for Research Culture work at Warwick and to recommend institutional responses to these reports as well as to the terms and conditions of major funders and external consultations.

  2. To review the work that has been progressed in departments to foster a positive research culture, to capture and disseminate best practice and to support a broader institutional dialogue around research culture change.

  3. To provide oversight for the Enhancing Research Culture Fund, inputting to internal funding decisions and receiving reports and updates from awarded projects.

  4. To facilitate institutional discussions on specific initiatives to support a positive research culture in areas such as bullying and harassment, fixed term contracts, and researcher well-being.

  5. To work with other relevant committees, e.g. the Open Research Group and Research Governance and Ethics Committee, to contribute to institutional strategy to improve research practice.

  6. To review the University’s present approach to embedding a positive research culture via training and development, highlighting areas of good practice and recommending new and/or additional future provision.

  7. To provide oversight of the University’s commitment to the Researcher Development Concordat and the HR Excellence in Research submission, approving the appropriate action plans and reporting to the University Research Committee.

  8. To develop a strong internal network of academic and professional services staff that are empowered to promote and facilitate shared values, through internal communications, events, and via an informative and inclusive digital presence.

  9. To recognise and communicate success with regards to internal approaches and initiatives where this has had a positive impact on the University’s research environment, feeding this into sector-level work and discussions.

  10. To monitor Warwick’s progress in developing a positive research culture, through research metrics and case studies, with reference to REF requirements with regards to People, Culture and Environment.

  11. To report to the University Research Committee on research culture actions, initiatives, projects, funding, and performance.
