Walter de la Mare: Ghost Stories by Barnett Freedman
|
Barnett Freedman's book illustrations, as represented in the de la Mare examples, exploit the subtlety of the medium of lithography to create the appropriately haunting and atmospheric images. Freedman did not like the distinction often made between fine art and commercial art - in his view 'there is only good art and bad art' (cited in Buckman 1998 The Dictionary of Artists in Britain Since 1945).
