Much of Fabian Miller's work is concerned with light and in this set of works he again investigates light. In the past he relied on grid patterns to explore the natural world. In the early nineties he began to use the circle and has cited Emerson's work Spiritual Law as a formative influence for this change. Emerson wrote: 'The eye is the first circle; the horizon which forms is the second; and throughout nature this primary figure is repeated without end. It is the highest emblem in the cipher of the world.'

Fabian Miller made the following statement in May 1993:

'Since living and working on Dartmoor my understanding of human nature has changed. Once I lived alone, and sought solace and meaning in the plants that filled my life, my eyes sharing the growth and joy of flowers and trees. Now within the family I live on the moor, my eyes and head full of its light. With love it flows in abundance, the plants still share the earth with limitless richness, but with this we now share the sky.

To live on the moor is to live with the sky. Each day it carries the sun, each night it holds the moon. To live on the moor is to walk in the sky, enveloped, embraced and on occasions absorbed. On the moor I may walk with Sons and Angels.'
