Divided Red by Gordon Smith
|
The example of Gordon Smith's work in the Warwick collection is from an experimental series of abstract paintings and screenprints made in 1970 which explored the implied optical effects of contrasting or complementary colour relationships.
The background is a wash of deep pink which is interrupted by the ribbon of colours in the centre. It is interesting to observe that the straight red line in the centre begins to appear curved due to the wavy blocks and lines of colour which meander around it.
