Jadé is very interested in fashion and will often buy a dress with no intention of wearing it, but to enjoy as a piece of art in its own right. She will hang it in her studio and draw inspiration from it for her painting. The dress referenced in this painting does refer to a dress that Jadé did wear. She wore it to an opening of one of her exhibitions. Unfortunately not only did the zip get damaged on first wearing but someone also accidently burnt it with a cigarette. The painting acts as a memorial to this beautiful dress.
On close inspection the canvas is covered in a complex series of layers of paint and oil stick. Jadé often uses an Ipad to play with different combinations of colours and layers before and during painting.
