Hebridean Wave I / Untitled Seascape by John Crawford
|
John Crawford takes the landscape of the seashore as the subject for his screenprint. Using stong horizontal lines he creates the idea of looking out to sea, with the surf crashing against the shore which he depicts with swirling patterns. Crawford uses screenprinting which is a method of printmaking used regularly in commercial printing developed in the 1930s. It was made popular by artists in the 1950s and 60s who favoured its capacity to reproduce images cheaply and in large editions.
