Slate Quarry, North Wales by Michael Carlo
|
When Michael Carlo lived in London in the 1960s he would make regular visits to North Wales to the slate quarries. He was interested in the way that humankind had shaped the landscape.
Using the etching technique, Carlo achieves an image which has hard, defined lines but also tonal variations in the black and white. An etching is a printmaking process where the surface design drawn on a metal plate is eaten away through a chemical process.
