 Inner Harbour by Michael Simkin

The collection of the Coventry College of Education contained a number of examples of printmaking in the 1960s and 1970s; they included wood engravings, linocuts, etchings, lithographs and screenprints. The collection was partly a means of promoting the purchase of original art works for schools, prints having the advantage of being relatively inexpensive. Works were regularly obtained from the annual 'Pictures for Schools' exhibitions from which this screenprint was bought in 1962.

Four separate screens will have been used to build up the areas of broken colour to create this brooding but lively image of the effects of a gathering storm in a harbour.
